Reflection Task 3
The Person of the Year

A Man Re-Created His Wedding Photos with Their Young Daughter

If I were a jury member of the committee choosing the person of the year, my candidate would be Ben Nunery. He and his daughter created an intimate portrait of life after loss.Ben Nunery’s wife Ali died in 2011 after a battle with a rare form of lung cancer. Two years later, Ben and their daughter Olivia decided to move out of the house that he and Ali moved into the day before their wedding. With everything packed up, the house was empty, just like it was on the day their wedding photos were taken. So Ben enlisted Ali’s photographer sister Melanie Pace, who shot their original set of wedding photos, to shoot a set of new ones.

Because of his loyalty, fondness and devotion to his wife, he is my candidate. I think he is the best person to be the person of the year. Nowadays, it is hard to love somebody. This man both standed by his wife even when she was a rare form of cancer and loved her. He still loves her and tries to preserve their priceless memories.Here heart-wrenching photos of them are;

Reflection Task 2B

Turkish Foods & Kitchen

Firstly, this video named as Turkish Foods & Kitchen Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations @ İstanbul, Turkey is about Turkish cuisine. It is a little bit long but our cuisine is an extensive one. Therefore, it is normal that my video lasts 43 minutes. It was prepared as a documentary in order to introduce Turkish food culture to the world. In this video, it is told that how to prepare our regional foods and desserts and what they taste like.  Our guy Anthony seems like he fancies Turkish foods and likes their tastes a lot. During video, he is content with eating foods. Actually, all of the people are happy with their situation and like foods. He is talking about the fact that our foods are delicious and recommends that they should be tasted.  I chose this video as I want to make sure that Turkish cuisine is famous all over the world and being loved by almost everyone. In my opinion, it reflects this truth perfectly. As a Turkish person, I like this video in a whole and wanted to share it with you. People in this video are positive not only about our cuisine but also about our culture and people. Therefore, according to me, some of people who watch this video will want to try our foods and have connections with us. Maybe, it helps people break their prejudgments about Turkey and Turkish people.

Reflaction Task 2A

TURKISH CUISINE

First of all, I want to say the reason why I chose this topic. I love eating a lot, I’m sure so do you. Additionally, it is said that three major kinds of cuisine exist in the world; Turkish, Chinese, and French Cuisine. Fully justifying its reputation, Turkish Cuisine is always a pleasant surprise for the visitors.

Turkish cuisine is highly rich in variety of foods. The most important part of Turkish cuisine is made up by kebab dishes. There are even kebab dishes that are taken under protection by law. Except horse, bear, frog and snail, all hunting meats, poultry, beef, fish and hundreds of fruits and vegetables take place in the cuisine. Along the Aegean and Mediterranean coast, cheese, olive oil, a variety of fresh vegetables and seafood are often used while In Anatolia, the legumes, butter and beef prevails are more dominant within dishes. On the shores of the Black Sea anchovies, bonito and mackerel-like fish are mostly cooked. In addition, spinach, karalâhana and maize are the most characteristic vegetables. Grilling, broiling and baking are among the most common cooking methods. An authentic cooking method is tandır. Within our traditional nomadic diet, milk and dairy products play a significant role.

Soups are among the indispensable dishes included in our cuisine. Especially during the winter, dinner always starts with a hot soup. Tarhana, ezogelin, lentil, and yayla soups are often consumed. As a main dish casserole vegetables, meat, fish, poultry or hunting or cattle meat dishes are preferred. Within these meals, spices and condiments have essential roles. Meats, fish, vegetables pastries, and fruit are cooked in an infinite variety of ways. Salads vary from region to region but seasonal greens, nuts, onions and tomatoes are among the materials that are commonly used. Salads are definitely prepared with olive oil, lemon and vinegar sauce. In Turkish cuisine, desserts are usually divided into two groups; syrup and milky desserts. Desserts with syrup are pastries that are sweetened with subsequently added syrup. Dairy desserts mostly consist of custard and puddings. What is more, we have cig kofte, baklava and yaprak sarma.

I admire our kebabs, desserts especially baklava, cig kofte and yaprak sarma. I admire our cuisine also. However, I don’t like fishes and onion. When looked generally, Turkish cuisine and its dishes are unique.

Reflection Task 1B

Joshua Jackson

Joshua was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, but spent the first eight years of his life in California before returning to Canada. At the age of 11, Josh decided he wanted to pursue acting. Knowing how cruel an acting career could be, his mother, a casting director, took him to his first audition in hopes of discouraging him. Instead, he landed a commercial for Keebler's potato chips. Since then, Josh has had a full career ranging from theater to television. He played the role of Charlie in a musical version of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. At this point, with the help of the play's casting director Laura Kennedy, he joined the William Morris Agency. Soon after, he landed the role of Charlie in The Mighty Ducks series. Years later he was among a small group of actors considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins. He appeared also in several movies including Cruel Intentions, The Skulls, The Safety of Objects, The Laramie Project and a short cameo in the remake of Ocean's Eleven where he appears as himself in a poker scene with Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Holly Marie Combs, among others. In 2000, he also guest-starred in Season 12 of The Simpsons, voicing the character of Jesse Grass. He played lots of roles and rose above all of these roles successfully. Of course, he is famous. However, he doesn’t have the reputation he deserves. He is handsome, successful and he has acting ability.

REFLECTION TASK 1A (EDITED)
Myself
Hi! I’m Seda. I want to introduce myself. I was born on 15 August 1995 in Ankara. In 2004, we moved to Adana and I spent 6 years of my childhood there. By the way, I was such a naughty child that I was sick and had scars on my body all the time. I kicked the other guys and sent them off games. Adana is a beautiful city. It has lots of trees, parks, picnic areas, resting places, and canals so; I love this place a lot and don’t like Ankara so much.

I went a lot of schools. They are Misket Primary School, Yahya Kemal Primary School, Sıtkı Kulak Primary School, Emine Sapmaz Primary School, Mamak Primary School and Hasanoğlan Atatürk Anatolian Teacher Training High School. Now, I am studying English Language Teaching in Middle East Technical University. Actually, I always wanted to be teacher as a child. However, I’m not sure about it now since I can’t bear children for a long time.  Another thing I wanna say about myself is my hobbies. My biggest desire is sleeping and I can sleep even on a bus. Additionally, my hobbies are listening to music, reading book, travelling anywhere, and watching film. Whenever I am engaged in these things, all my connections with earth are broken. Lastly, I want to talk about my emotional side. Actually, I am a sensitive person but I don’t reflect my sensitiveness to people. Instead of doing that, I always smile, laugh and have a fun. And, I cannot hate anyone easily. However, when I hate anyone, it is almost impossible that I can love that person again or I can be positive about him again. I hate greedy and over-ambitious people, too. On the other hand, I am so talkative, cheerful and helpful. I cannot keep calm if I realize my friend is sad or in trouble. I try to do my best in order to help somebody. Here is my point of view about myself. I hope you will like it. J
